CARBON REMOVALS AT COP VALUES:

WE GROUND OUR WORK IN 4 CORE VALUES:

Science-Driven

The science is clear. The IPCC says we need to remove and store 5-16 billion tonnes per year by 2050 to support climate action in three ways: lower net emissions now; counterbalance remaining ‘hard-to-abate’ emissions in the medium term; and deliver net negative emissions in the long term.

Urgent & Pragmatic

We need to develop carbon removals now – at the same time as radically reducing emissions – so we can remove carbon at the scale that’s needed later. But there is a huge mismatch between the identified need and the current scale of efforts. Today we are measurably and durably removing just a few thousand tonnes of CO2 from the air every year – a tiny fraction of the billions of tonnes the IPCC says we need to remove and store per year by 2050. Carbon removal is starting to happen, but it needs more support to scale quickly and responsibly.

Equity-Focused
and Inclusive

The carbon removal community is vibrant and fast-growing. It includes Global South climate activists, creative policy-makers, pioneering mayors, tech companies, carbon market developers and leaders in hard-to-abate industries. We are all working to identify new solutions and ways of rewiring the global economy to limit temperature rise and preserve a stable planet for our collective future.

Empowering &
Hopeful

Far from competing with reduction and adaptation, carbon removal is an essential and complementary third pillar of climate action. Working to have tangible impact through carbon removals gives us hope and agency in the face of the climate crisis. Every part of the world has something to give and everyone can do their part.
